Jaguar F-Pace Wins 2017 World Car Of The Year

Jaguar has laid claim to the title of World Car of the Year with its high-riding F-Pace, as three SUV models occupied the top placings for 2017, which is indicative of the global sales shift away from conventional passenger vehicles.

An award ceremony was held at the New York motor show last week, where the British carmaker tallied 754 points, placing it just ahead of the runner-up Volkswagen Tiguan (740) and third-place Audi Q5 (734).

Other finalists that were under consideration for the main gong included the Honda Civic (702), Audi Q2 (697), Mazda CX-9 (695) and Abarth 124 Spider (643).

Furthermore, the F-Pace also added World Car Design of the Year to its honour roll after besting the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet and Toyota C-HR.

Meanwhile, World Luxury Car of the Year was awarded to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class which accumulated 816 points, followed by the Volvo S90/D90 (792) and BMW 5 Series (783).

Porsche added to its collection of World Performance Car of the Year accolades thanks to its Boxster and Cayman twins which scored 781 points, more than the Audi R8 Spyder (777) and McLaren 570S (768) could muster.

BMW took home the World Urban Car of the Year title with the i3 94Ah, which accrued 743 points ahead of Citroen C3 (721) and Suzuki Ignis (634).

The Toyota Prius Prime was judged World Green Car of the Year with a tally of 765 points, overcoming the Chevrolet Bolt (764) and Tesla Model X – which interestingly had its final score withheld.

Each vehicle that was in the running for an award was assessed and scored based on a criteria which included emotional appeal, market significance, occupant environment, performance, safety and value.
