Audi A8 2018 Review


Time was, when you wanted to see what was next in automotive cleverness, you looked to the big three. And I mean big in two ways - Germany's BMW, Mercedes-Benz and latterly Audi all put their big ideas into their big cars, the limos, with V12 engines and huge price tags, and status-conscious owners who spent more time in the back than in the driver's seat.

That kind of went away for a while, partly because really big ideas were being held back, by the available technology and buyer interest. If I want to start an argument, I'll loudly announce to a group of people that innovation by automakers has been eclipsed by Apple and Samsung and Google - the companies that made cars were grappling with bigger, systemic issues.

But with Tesla bringing the double-edged sword of Silicon Valley swagger to the automotive world, it's all on again - stuff we see in phones and science fiction are finding their way on to our driveways and for the first time in a decade, the Big Three are finding relevance in their uber limos as technology showcases.
